his full sterling salary albeit the same is paid

out of the funds of the Colony.

(b) Though the adoption of the recommendations

of the Commissioners effected for the same reason

increases in salaries of both sterling salary

officers and dollar salary officers (the latter

receiving an increase of 20% as against 15% for

the former), the dollar salary officers have

suffered no reduction of their salaries albeit

they rarely if ever have to remit to meet

sterling obligations.

24. We Your Petitioners whose names appear in the

Second Schedule of this Petition, were appointed to the

Civil Service of Hong Kong subsequently to the adoption

of the Report of the Commissioners hereinbefore mentioned

and on appointment we were informed that our salaries

would be sterling salaries. We received no intimation

that these salaries would be subject to reduction by

reason of local payment being made at a rate which

bears no true or fixed relation to the sterling value

of our salaries as stated at the time of our appointment, and we respectfully submit that the contentions urged in this Petition on behalf of other officers apply with equal, if not greater, force to ourselves.

25. In conclusion Your Petitioners respectfully pray that their sterling salaries may as from the beginning

of this present year be paid in dollars taken at their true relation to sterling based in an equitable manner
